Frequently Asked Questions

SVF-201 MODULE QUESTIONS

What is the best Gain setting for a clean signal?

The Input Attenuator / Gain control defines the amplitude of the signal that will travel into the filter. At a counter-clockwise (CCW) position there will be no signal going into the module at all, at around 9 o’ clock the signal will be at unity gain and at full clockwise (CW) position the signal will be boosted by about +6dB.

Can I use the SVF-201 with my +5V rail?

If you have a +5V power supply on your bus board rails and you want to use it with the KOMA Elektronik SVF-201 then you can change the second jumper setting from ‘Onboard’ to ‘Bus’. Don’t worry, the two +5V rails can never be connected together, regardless of how you place the jumper.

What are the specifications of the Mix Out CV input?

The Mix Out is a special output of the SVF-201 which contains all three of the outputs (LP, BP and HP). You can sweep continuously through these three outputs with a control voltage signal from 0 – 5V. The diagram below shows the corresponding loudness curves of the filter characteristics in correlation with the CV input. Low pass appears at 0.25V to 2.25V, pure bandpass between 2.25V and 2.75V and from 2.75V to 4.75 you’ll get high pass as an output signal. All outputs crossfade into each other.

The Mix Output has more internal gain than the three different single outputs, so signals taken from this output will have more overdrive / distortion than their respective partners. The signal levels themselves are identical though.

What should I do when I want to switch of the white light around the Cutoff knob?

If you don’t like the white light around the Cutoff knob simply take out the jumper above ‘LED Corona’ (and try not to lose it!).

KOMMANDER QUESTIONS

I can’t fit four 3.5 mm (minijack) cables in all the outputs of the KOMMANDER, what to do?

When you want to use both CV and Gate outputs, so 4 outputs in a row, we recommend Doepfer a-100c cables. They fit beautifully, 100% guaranteed.
In Europe? Get Doepfer cables at our dealer Schneiders Laden! In North America? Take a look at the page of our dealer Analogue Haven.

Can I use my KOMMANDER in combination with a banana jack system?

Yes, make sure that you have right extension cables and give it a go! (make sure that the output voltages match with the input voltages of your synth!) A customer told us he uses his  banana jack system with two KOMMANDERS, that are  powered up with the Harley Benton Powerplant and it provides enough power for both and the earth for the banana jack system.

Can I use my KOMMANDER with a “pedaltank”-like powersupply?

Yes! Make sure the maximum output is 9V / 500 mA per KOMMANDER with a centre negative tip. We advice to use the KOMMANDER with the original KOMA Elektronik PSU. Get yours here.

Does the KOMMANDER interfere with other light sources in my room?

Basically not, in rare cases some halogen lamps or a very bright sun shining directly on the sensor can produce unwanted side-effects though, so whenever you notice strange behaviour of your CV output try to trace down the ‘bad’ lamp or move the Kommander out of the sunlight.

PEDAL QUESTIONS

Do your pedals come with a power supply?

All KOMA pedals sold within North America, Japan and Europe come with a 9V DC power supply.  We recommend you to use your pedal ONLY with this adapter, since we can’t assure the quality of your sound otherwise.

Do you also offer factory modifications for the pedals?

We can tweak and change our pedals a lot, how to get a tweaked unit, you’ll find here:

A FACTORY MODIFICATION BEFORE YOU PURCHASED THE UNIT?

First of all: get in touch with us! Let us know which product you want to buy and what you would like to see modified. We will let you know what the possibilities are and what the price / time estimation will be. When you confirm the order, we’ll send you a link for the payment and you will receive your product by mail as soon as the payment is in and we worked our magic. We will modify your unit by hand, so it will take longer than when you order a standard product, but we will keep you up to date about the process!

A FACTORY MODIFICATION AFTER I PURCHASED THE UNIT?

Get in touch with us by email, let us know who you are, what you would like to see modified and we will check if its possible. When we can do it, we will send you a price and time estimation. When you shipped the pedal back to our workspace and you made the payment for the modifications, we will get to work. As soon as the modification is finished we’ll send it back to the shipping address included. Do not ship your equipment to KOMA Elektronik until you have received an RMA number.

Do your pedals have easter eggs?

That’s the fun part of our job! So: of course! Check the documentation coming with the pedal to figure some of them out (others we’ll keep secret)!
